The simplest definition
A website is a collection of pages, stored on a computer that is always on (called a server), which anyone can open through a browser by typing an address. That is it. Everything else is detail.
The three pieces you need
The domain is the address people type: syncoded.com. You rent it yearly, from €10 to €30 depending on the extension. It is the only truly unique thing - nobody else can have your domain.
The hosting is the space where your website lives. Think of it as renting a small piece of a very reliable computer. It costs from €40 a year for a simple site, more if you have an online store with heavy traffic.
The pages are the actual content: home, services, about, contact. Together they form the website itself.
"But I have a Facebook / Instagram page. Is that not enough?"
It is not, and here is why: on social media you build on rented land. The platform decides who sees your posts, changes the rules overnight and can suspend your account without warning. Your website is land you own.
More importantly, people search on Google when they are ready to buy. Someone searching "plumber in my city" is not scrolling through Instagram - they want a phone number now. If you are not on Google, that client goes to a competitor.
What a website actually does for your business
- It works 24/7 - it answers questions and takes bookings while you sleep.
- It builds trust - most people check your website before they call you.
- It brings clients who search for you - people already looking for what you sell.
- It is measurable - you know exactly how many people visited, from where and what they did.
How to start
You do not need to understand the technical side. You need to know what you want the website to do: bring phone calls, take orders, present your portfolio. Everything else is our job.
